Unable to connect Outlook 2007 to Exchange 2007?

As soon as a newer version of Microsoft Outlook comes in the market, users who are fond of exploring the latest versions install the same as soon as they can. Upgrading to the latest version can be a great fun but sometimes it may result in problems too. For example, if you are on Exchange 2007 and upgrades your Outlook to 2016 then you may experience the below issue:

You cannot connect to your mailbox on Exchange Server, and when you are trying to connect, here is an error message that stops you:

The resource that you are trying to use is located on an unsupported version of Microsoft Exchange.

What is the solution for this problem?

Support for Outlook and Exchange server depends upon their versions. If you want to stay with Exchange server then you need to roll back to Outlook 2013. If you do not want to roll back, then you should upgrade your Exchange Server to 2010, 2013, or 2016 in order to connect your Outlook 2016 with mailbox on Exchange Server.

Another solution for those who just want to access email in Outlook is setting up email using IMAP.

Another trick that may work is disable automatic upgrades for Exchange 2007. You can disable this by making changes in registry key or by adding the below registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\office\15.0\common\officeupdate
DWORD: enableautomaticupgrade
Value: 0

connect outlook to exchange

Note: Modifying the registry key may be dangerous; hence, it is suggested being always careful while doing it. Also, do it at your own risk. And, if you do not know how to edit a registry key then use a registry editor.
